What is Cloud Technology?

Cloud infrastructure services rely on layers of virtualization to make a group of computers behave like a single entity, this brings about the posibility to easy management not only of resources allocation but availability.  For the vast majority of situations this is good but there are specific situations in which the Cloud is counterproductive.

Since hosting service on the Cloud rely on layers of virtualization, the vast majority of the time, hosting providers will limit resources allocation to prevent overuse. This increases latency and reduces response from the webserver, even when proper caching mechanisms reduce it. To make matters more complicated, the Cloud manages generally thousands upon thousands of customers at the same time which can create security problems.

Are your services against the Cloud?

Not at all. Cloud can be great for lots of uses but for customers that want low latency websites and processor power, the cloud infraestructure can sometimes add latency due the virtualized nature.

There are tons of people willing to invest in the Cloud and we don’t have anything against them. We believe the user should have more options and being the sysadmins we are, we believe in the oldschool principe of, the less abstractions and layers you add, the better.

Why pay more for a service when some Cloud services are cheaper?

Cloud services can be cheap at first but you have to consider your resources. You are assigned a tiny fraction of CPU time and they usually tweak this to fit their ends, once you start needing more, the upgrades usually cost more than getting a more powerful dedicated server.

We offer you the chance of having a dedicated server performance managed by us, with price that is inferior of having to pay and manage a dedicated server.

What's the difference with your Dedicated service?

We believe in simplicity. Since we love linux and everything about it we feel compelled to go back to the basics. Our solution consist on dividing a group of customers on each server. When a server fills with the maximum of user we allow, we start another server and load it with new customers so, essentially, each server hosts a tiny group of customers, allowing them to use all the power of the server without the nasty resource allocation so common on other hosting providers.

What happens if someone eats lots of resources?

If some customer is abusing CPU resources for a long time, we notify the customer and take preventive measures limiting the PHP events on that account to avoid affecting the other customers. Since there are few customers on each server and we host on Xeon servers with at least 16 threads, the chances of that behavior affecting others are minimal.
